Christmas Lights

2019 date : 30th November

The switch on event saw Father Christmas arrive in East Leake for what is now an event that draws hundreds and hundreds of people—including a massive number of children anxious to see the very special visitor to the centre of the village. The arrival of the VIP visitor created a real sense of excitement as he arrived on an illuminated sleigh and to perform the switch-on after the traditional countdown from 10.

This was the sixth annual event and which is obviously become more and more popular each year and before Santa’s arrival there had been carol singing with the Charnwood Concert Band playing, singing by the East Leake Community Carol Singers and youngsters from the Brookside Primary School also taking part. And after the switch on there was dancing to the taped music of carols on the closed-to-traffic main street.

There was a real festive feeling in the village, with the activities starting at 2pm in the village hall with a massively popular festive Craft Fair that was offering a room full of stalls with all kinds of goods on sale,. At times it was almost impossible to get into the hall because there were so many people there.
