Drop in Sessions & Questionnaire

East Leake Community Survey

Have your say about the future of East Leake through the ‘East Leake Community-Led Plan

The East Leake community-led plan is being conducted through 2012 and aims to find out from residents and those who work in the village how you would like to see the village develop over the next few years. It’s a way for you to have your say about what you like and don’t like about the village, what you think works well and what your concerns are. A few other villages in the Rushcliffe area have already done this and so we thought we should have our say too.

Who is organising this?

We are a community-led project which means that the people involved are volunteers from the village. We are ordinary people, like you, who live and/or work in the village and feel passionate about wanting to have a say about future directions and we want to hear from you too.

Why should this interest me?

It’s important that everyone in East Leake has a voice. If you have an opinion about transport links, professional and recreational facilities, the village centre, community activities, housing, the environment, crime prevention and education then we want to hear it. And we want to hear from everyone and that includes YOU! We are going to visit our schools, to hear from our young people, and we’ll be asking for the various social groups in the village to give us their opinion too. This is a real opportunity for you to have your say about anything to do with East Leake so don’t miss your chance to let us know your thoughts.

So how do I have my say?

During 2012, all residents and local businesses will be invited to give their views which will contribute to the direction that YOU wish East Leake to take in the coming years. Details of two drop in sessions in March are on East Leake Community Website (www.east-leake.co.uk/eventsguide1/html) and you can also join us on our Face book page “East Leake Community Planning Group”. These sessions are going to guide our focus for the questionnaire which will be circulated to all households and businesses in East Leake later in the Spring. The questionnaire will be available to complete on paper and online and you will be able to comment freely as well as answering the questions directly. If you would like any documentation in large print or other formats, please contact Vicenta Rose, Secretary on

What are you going to do with the information you get from the questionnaires?

The questionnaires will be analysed and the information gathered will allow us to write the community-led plan which will formalise your views. The plan will be available for you to read and will be submitted to the East Leake Parish Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council. The plan will inform these councils of our views and will focus and influence the future directions of the village. The community-led plan group will remain in place following the survey and work with the Parish Council in particular to develop their Action Plan for the village over the next decade.

How will I know if the survey has had an impact on the village?

Well, hopefully you will see changes happening over the next few years in the village! You can stay in touch with developments by going to Parish Council meetings, reading articles in the Parish Council magazine, Compass and the East Leake Times and through our page on the Community Website where we will highlight updates and changes that are happening as a direct result of the survey. This is our chance to influence council decisions so come along to our drop-in sessions or email us but most importantly, complete the survey when it arrives through your door and HAVE YOUR SAY….EAST LEAKE NEEDS YOU!

Questionnaire Update October 2012

A very big thank you to all the residents of East Leake who completed the questionnaire. The response rate was nearly 40% which is amazing!

As a reminder of the process – every household in the village received a questionnaire, late August and early September, hand delivered by a team of volunteers from the East Leake Community Plan Group. This was followed up in mid-September by the delivery of further reminders and a short extension to the deadline for return as we were still receiving such a good response. Banners in the village also advertised the questionnaire.

We are now collating the data from the responses through an external company that specialises in social research and statistical analysis. The results should be available in mid December 2012. Your views will inform the East Leake Community Plan. The Community Plan will be made available to everyone in East Leake and will input into the work of the Parish Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council.

The East Leake Community Plan Group will evolve into an Implementation Group to progress issues and the Community Plan. Residents of East Leake will be invited to support the initiatives identified as it’s important for the community to take ownership of its Community Plan and make it happen.

We will be publishing the plan and holding further drop in sessions in Spring 2013.

2012 Drop In Sessions

The Drop In Sessions that took place on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 March 2012 were a huge success and we thank the many residents and businesses of East Leake who took time to come along to give their views and “have their say”.

The themes included education, transport, the environment, leisure, business, health, the elderly and the young. This important feedback will be collated and will contribute towards a further questionnaire going out later in the year. And please do complete the questionnaire as we need the hard data that this will generate to put some weight behind our views. This information will then feed into a final plan that will indicate your vision of how you see and would like to see East Leake in the coming years. There are clearly concerns in a number of areas and these can now be picked up on and addressed collectively.

It was a real community experience to organise this type of event, not only in the planning and the preparation but also to meet together in the Village Hall and share ideas. Thank you again to all involved.

Report on the East Leake Community Survey

This report presents the findings of a questionnaire survey conducted among residents of East Leake between August and October 2012.

The questionnaire was designed by members of the East Leake Community Plan Group and both a paper and online version were available. Paper surveys were delivered to every address in the village and residents were asked to either complete the paper questionnaire and return it in one of several collection boxes situated throughout the village, or to use the unique identification number printed on the questionnaire to access an online version of the survey to complete via the internet.

A total of 2776 surveys were delivered and 1058 were returned (149 online and the remaining 909 were paper returns), giving a response rate of 38%. Appendix 1 provides a summary of respondents’ characteristics where these were provided.

2013 Drop In Session

The 2013 Drop In Session that took place on Saturday 23 March 2013. Given the continued terrible weather, the turn out was good.
