Community Care – Transport Scheme

This is a social car scheme, helping people of any age who live in East Leake or Costock and who have mobility difficulties and are unable to enlist the help of relatives or friends to get around. Some journeys involve hospital appointments and visiting, others are to opticians, doctors or dental appointments and occasional transport to Day Centres and Clubs. Shopping trips can also be arranged when transport is available. We are unable to undertake any regular weekly trips (except in exceptional circumstances agreed by the Chair of the Management Committee).

If you would like to become a volunteer driver you will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Check (DBS).  There is no cost to the driver.

If you have difficulty in reaching your destination within approximately 20 miles of East Leake, do approach us and we will try to help. If we have available drivers, we can offer any passenger a maximum of two journeys a week.

How to book a car:

1. We need as much notice as possible of your requested journey at least two days for local journeys and one week for journeys of longer distance. We would also like one week’s notice for hospital appointments, whenever this is possible. This is so that we have time to make the necessary arrangements and make the best use of our volunteer drivers.

2. Contact your nearest Area Organiser, details on our contacts page, and give details of your name, address, telephone number and journey request.  We will need to register your details eg. name , address, whether you have difficulty walking or have an illness which the driver needs to be aware of.  This is to enable us to transport you safely and securely. These details will be held securely by the Transport Book Organiser.  If you have problems contacting your nearest Area Organiser, then try another name on the list. Once arrangements have been made you will be contacted with the name of your driver. We reserve the right to withdraw or withhold services should clients exhibit threatening or offensive behaviour to our drivers.

3. The Area Organiser will give you details of any charges and arrange how the payment should be made. You will be offered a receipt. The payment is usually made to the Area Organiser who booked your transport as soon as is convenient after your journey.

Please note: All administrators of the scheme and the drivers are volunteers. We will do our best to meet your needs but on occasions this may not be possible.
